On June 18, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd.(DSIC) of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited(CSSC), in collaboration with CSSC Trading, held a naming ceremony for the “SEA CREATION,” the third 175,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier built for China Merchants Shipping. Wang Guoqiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group, Director, and General Manager of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), attended the naming ceremony. The guest of honor for the naming was Li Yongming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of China Merchants Group, while Li Li, Chairman and General Manager of Zhejiang Zheneng Natural Gas Trading Co., Ltd., cut the rope. Also in attendance were Hu Jianhua, Convener of the External Directors of Sinochem; Wang Yongxin, General Manager of China Merchants Shipping; Hu Xuteng, Chairman and General Manager of Sinochem Energy; Wu Wenlong, General Manager of Sinochem Petroleum; Liu Bin, General Manager of Liaoning Port Group; Xu Hui, Deputy General Manager of China Merchants Shipping; Huang Jin, Senior Vice President of Det Norske Verft (DNV); Zhang Qingwen, Vice President of China Classification Society; Han Dongwang, Chairman of Dalian Shipbuilding; Lin Jiming, General Manager of Dalian Shipbuilding; Xu Ye, Deputy General Manager of Dalian Shipbuilding; and heads of relevant units attended the ceremony.
The “SEA CREATION” was independently researched, developed, and designed by Dalian Shipbuilding. It is equipped with the internationally advanced Mark III Flex cargo containment system, as well as a dual-fuel main engine, dual-fuel generator, conventional fuel oil boiler, cargo handling system, reliquefaction unit, and air lubrication system. This vessel type achieves a comprehensive balance in terms of economy, flexibility, and compatibility, and can berth at the vast majority of large LNG terminals worldwide.
Building on the construction experience gained from previous vessels in the series, Dalian Shipbuilding has continuously optimized and upgraded the construction process, achieving a dual leap in both construction efficiency and quality. The “SEA CREATION”’s cargo containment system achieved outstanding results, including zero leaks in acoustic testing, zero leaks in single-cargo-tank ammonia testing, and zero leaks in low-temperature piping and insulation during cold pipe filling. The vessel successfully completed its first independently conducted “fuel oil + natural gas” dual-fuel sea trial, which simulated actual operational conditions as closely as possible. All test items were completed to a high standard in just 10 days, with the vessel demonstrating stable operational performance.
The exceptional quality and performance of “SEA CREATION”perfectly align with high-standard operational system of China Merchants Shipping and are deeply integrated with its global energy transportation development strategy. Previously, the first two sister ships in this project, the “SEA NAVIGATOR” and the “SEA NAVIGATOR,” were delivered in September 2025 and January 2026, respectively. To date, they have collectively completed more than 10 voyages, operating smoothly and efficiently, further demonstrating Dalian Shipbuilding’s capability to deliver high-quality LNG carriers in volume production. |
